getting ready
The past two gigs have been a blast.
The JUICE mag party at Zouk was interesting, because I had never played there, and the soundsystem definitely makes my live setup sound as good as it gets. Lots of basses there! At first it felt like practice, because I couldn’t see how many people there were with all the dry ice…then I realised that it was actually quite packed!
But all in all, a good show.
The DMY Berlin exhibit was a lot more DIY, as Nick had carried most of his own gear to fit the art gallery. Cables and amps on the white tiled floor, guitars scattered next to art pieces: the bands themselves were part of the exhibit in a way.
It was nice to play to a small crowd that listens to you though: you don’t always get that level of attention for a free event (one for which the bands were not even supposed to be the main attraction anyway). The MUON cover of Kraftwerk’s Tour de France was fantastic, too.
And now…the album launch.
Most songs are ready, as are the covers. I’m really happy about the covers actually, for the very reason that someone very special will be singing. I don’t want to spoil it, but there are some covers that we’ve never played, and we’re really stoked about those.
I’ve just spent the evening with John from the Villains crew for the visual aspect of the show, and his ideas are awesome. I can’t wait to see how they will translate to the screen!
As for something new…this is the first track I’ve completed since the album came out. It’s dedicated to Roberto Saviano, and all the honest people who show us everyday how important words are, in a society where we are too often silenced.
It’s a demo of course, and the live track will be different…a bit of a departure, I’m hoping.
See you on the 27th.
